GCAS at HummerFest 2025

The 2025 Hummingbird Festival was hosted by the Imogen F. Wilson Education Foundation at the Mimbres Culture Heritage Site on the last full weekend of July. The GCAS was one among a number of vendors and educational booths set up to enjoy the warm weather and entertain the visitors. Hummingbird capture/banding/release began at about 7:30 AM on Saturday and was well attended by both avian and human passers-by.

The GCAS booth provided literature and displayed an array of unprovenienced artifacts from our collections. Eduardo Arguello, Gary Barnett, Torie Grass, Marilyn Gendron, and Marianne Smith took turns describing to our visitors the significance of artifacts ranging from stone tools to seashells to ceramics. We explained ways to distinguish stone artifacts from natural rocks, and how to differentiate ancient Mimbres vessels from recently-fabricated…reproductions (so to speak). Our five volunteers had good times together, and with answering the questions raised by the visitors to our booth.

We’ll be back next year, so come join the folks at our GCAS booth in 2026!
